Workshops We Offer

Purpose of a workshop:

• Planting seeds to grow a flourishing local community of classical educators

• Gathering people pursuing the same life

• Learning and growing in the classical tradition

• To help you find your neighbors, co-laborers pursuing knowledge, wisdom, and virtue

Workshops costs are charged to the attendees. Attendees will register through the CiRCE website for $57 per workshop day. There are no additional costs, beyond the registration costs, to host a workshop.

A Day in the Apprenticeship

In this event, a CiRCE Head Mentor will lead participants through a mock day of the CiRCE Master Teacher Apprenticeship program. It is a perfect workshop for those interested in learning more about the apprenticeship and for those interested in good conversations about classical education, modes of teaching, and a passage from a great book, for these are the three topics that will be discussed in this workshop.

Lost Tools of Reading

In this event, a CiRCE representative will offer an introduction to reading well. The workshop will cover how to “see” things in a story, using good questions, the CiRCE highlighting system, and looking for echoes. By learning to answer the questions the mind is naturally asking and learning to see what the best readers and writers in history have seen, we can become more interested, engaged, and eager readers.

Lost Tools of Teaching

In this event, a CiRCE Certified Master Teacher will work through the two classical modes of teaching: Socratic and Mimetic. The workshop will begin with the foundational belief that truth is, it can be known, and it can be communicated. It will then consider both the Socratic and the Mimetic modes for discovering, knowing, and communicating truth. We will look at how to do them, how to do them well, and how to discern the dangers of each.

Lost Tools of Writing Level 1

In this event, a CiRCE Certified Master Teacher will offer a detailed introduction to The Lost Tools of Writing. The teacher will reveal how to solve the three problems all writers face; the questions that make for the kind of deep thinking that leads to good writing; and why writing doesn't need to be a stressful, intimidating process. The workshop will cover the big picture of LTW, some difficulties students and teachers encounter, and a few sample lessons.

In this event, a CiRCE Certified Master Teacher will offer a detailed introduction to The Lost Tools of Writing, Level II. The teacher will lead the workshop through an introduction of Level II, how it differs from Level I, how it builds on the skills and ideas taught in Level I, and how it teaches ideas that may appear particular to the courtroom but are just as valuable in learning to read literature well and even navigate the everyday experiences of life.
